The current study focuses on the strategic planning and the implementation of the planning to produce an effective strategic plan for the better productivity and positioning over its competitors. As stated by Ind (2007), the strategic planning needs to be reviewed and revised periodically to improve the organisational process based on updated objectives and goals. The current study on Tesco, UK has been divided into four consecutive activities followed by the execution of the planning in real so that expectations of the stakeholders and other components of the concerned organisation could successfully be accomplished. 1.0 activity 1: Preparation of the strategic plan 1.1 Current market position: Tesco is leading the UK market while playing within the retail industry. According to the statistics published in 2010, the market share of Tesco is 30.6% where the other retailers within the industry are possessing comparatively lower market share. However, Cheng (2007) delivered the opinion that Waitrose has crossed over the brand currently whereas Tesco is leading the industry due to its brand reputation and the valued services.
